Keith’s Top Ten Supplements for Stressful Times

Jul 11, 2008

I am married with three kids so I need all the help I can get to make it through my stressful and busy days. Here is a list of herbal supplement mood enhancers available at i-supplements.com that work for me and there is no prescription needed.

1. Hi-potency sustained release multi-vitamin - take with food, preferably breakfast.

2. Holy Basil - herb that helps neutralize cortisol, a stress hormone that leaves us feeling frazzled.

3. Siberian Ginseng & Gotu Kola - helps with circulating oxygen through the blood stream and supports physical and mental vitality. This combination of natural ingredients works very well together.

4. Calcium with Magnesium - calcium relaxes nerves and muscles, and magnesium stops spasms in our bodies. The kind of physical stresses that we suffer in everyday life like headaches, backaches, muscle spasms, nervous twitching, palpitations, just to name a few. Take small doses throughout the day and an extra dose at bedtime.

5. Chamomile - helps with relaxation, especially nervous stomachs. Do not use this herb if you are allergic to ragweed!

6. Valerian - natural muscle relaxer, aids insomnia, lowers blood pressure.

7. St John’s Wort - try it for 4-6 weeks and see if you don’t feel more happy than sad. A small flower can’t solve life’s problems but many people think it helps and I’m one of them.

8. Relax All - is an herbal supplement that was designed to support relaxation and calming to muscles. Wild Jujube seed has been highly regarded by the Chinese for centuries for its supportive relaxation properties and extremely low toxicity. Numerous studies have demonstrated components of magnolia bark (magnolol and honokiol) to support regulation and calming of the central-nervous-system, reducing stress and anxiety. Beta-phenyl-gamma-aminobutyric acid is a derivative of the neuro-transmitter GABA (gamma-amino butyric acid ) that successfully crosses the blood-brain barrier, unlike GABA itself. Clinically, it has indicated supportive effects for anti-anxiety, muscle relaxation and a mild feeling of tranquillity. Calcium and Magnesium are well known for their tranquilizing effects and deficiencies of either may produce muscle spasms and cramps, anxiety, nervousness, irritability, lack of/restless sleep and physical fatigue. Both L-theanine and valerian are well documented to support the formation of GABA, which influences the levels of two other neurotransmitters, dopamine and serotonin, producing the key relaxation effect.

9. Vitamin B-12 - helps with physical and emotional stress, helps rid the body of fats and toxins, and is vital for mental health.

10. Vitamin B Complex - B vitamins give our bodies energy and help us cope with stress. Vitamin B Complex also promotes healthy nerves, skin, eyes, liver and mouth. Maintains good muscle tone in the gastrointestinal tract.

Lavendar is another great one for relaxation and stress relief. I use a lavendar scented body lotion in the evenings that helps me relax and fall asleep.
